Are we to believe our lying eyes, or are we to believe what we read in your paper? Are we to believe our eyes, or what Republican politicians, Fox News, and your newspaper tell us?
When I drive down the highway, or down Dewey I see a new building at the college, I see two new banks being built, a new car wash and oil exchange, a new garage out by Cody Park, new construction on Newberry and so much highway construction you can hardly get through town. The Buffalo Bill bypass is just completed, a new jail constructed and lots of new businesses in town. Sales tax and occupation tax receipts are up. The stock market is near an all-time high and your paper is full of advertising for help. North Platte is considered to have full employment. The railroad is making a ton of money and the hospital is planning a huge expansion. In driving the country I have never seen so much new ag machinery, or so many new pickups. Property values are on the increase. I know that a lot of this construction is helped by stimulus money, but it is happening. I could go on, but how does it get better than that? Romney and Fischer say the economy is horrible and both say they can make it better, but both have signed pledges that they will not raise taxes to pay for it. How is that supposed to work?
