It's deja vu all over again. We are getting the roof fixed here at the Telegraph, so along with the usual noise of chirping phones (phones don't really "ring" anymore, do they?), humming printers and clanging presses, we are also subject to an incessant pounding from over our heads. It's progress, which is good, but the process of getting there is noisy and messy. And by the way, if you were happy to see the rain this week, you are welcome. I take full credit since I washed my car last weekend.
The roof repairs would be easier to cope with if the noise was predictable. A nice steady "thump, thump, thump" I could get used to. But instead, the noise is erratic, sporadic and distracting.
