Pilot to speak at 20th Century Veterans event

Capt. Mark A. Cullinan, a pilot during Desert Storm and Desert Shield who has been awarded a Bronze Star and an Air Medal, will speak at the 20th Century Veterans Association Veterans Day event at the 20th Century Veterans Memorial at Highway 83 and Interstate 80.

The event starts at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Kevin Kennedy will give the welcome and Chaplain Gary Smith will give an invocation. The Lee Bird Civil Air Patrol Cadets led by Commander Tom Moore will give a flag salute and Dr. Kim Baxter will sing the national anthem. The cadets will also lead the service in the Pledge of Allegiance before Cullinan takes the stage.

Baxter will sing “God Bless America” “High Above All” and “God Bless the USA” before a benediction by Smith and “Taps” will be performed by Jonathan Dekleva.

Honor veterans, then eat at American Legion

The American Legion Post No. 163 in North Platte will host a ceremony honoring veterans at 11 a.m. on Sunday. The ceremony will take place at the American Legion Hall, 2020 E. Fourth St.

The VFW Bean Feed is at 11 a.m. on Sunday at the American Legion Hall, 2020 E. Fourth St. The bean feed will follow the veterans ceremony, and will continue until the ham and beans run out. All are welcome to come celebrate.

Downtown parade at 2 p.m. Sunday

The North Platte Veterans Day parade is at 2 p.m. Sunday in downtown North Platte.

Promotion to help Wounded Warriors

Scooter’s Coffee is honoring active and retired military on Veterans Day with free drinks of any size and also providing customers with the opportunity to show their support through a partnership with Wounded Warriors Family Support. WWFS is an organization dedicated to assisting the families of those wounded, injured or killed in action.

On Sunday and Monday,, Scooter’s Coffee customers will be able to add a dollar donation for WWFS to their order.

In addition to the free drink and donations, customers will also notice Scooter’s Coffee’s Veterans Day theme smiley stickers on each cup.


Museum will honor veterans

The public is invited to honor veterans from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Gothenburg Historical Museum. Special guests are those who have served or are currently serving in the honor guard.

Refreshments will be served.


Program Monday at school

Sandhills Schools will host a Veterans Day program at 11 a.m. Monday at Halsey Elementary in Halsey.


American Legion to host dinner and speakers

The Hershey American Legion Post No. 279, 108 E. Second St., will host a Veterans Day dinner on Sunday.

The doors open at 6 p.m., followed by the scalloped potatoes and ham dinner at 6:15. The program begins at 7 with the Boys and Girls State speakers. Cost is a donation.


Stapleton to host soup supper

The annual Veterans Day soup supper is at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Veterans Memorial Building. Freewill donations will be accepted.

The Stapleton Public Schools Veterans Day program is at 10 a.m. on Monday.

The guest speaker is Darwin M. “Derb” Frey.


Legion Hall to serve breakfast

Take your family to the casual breakfast from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Sutherland Legion Hall on Sunday and enjoy a visit with friends and neighbors.

The recommended donation is a minimum $6 for adults and children 6 and older. Children 5 and younger eat free. Everyone is invited.

The Thedford American Legion Hall is hosting a Veterans Day dinner at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.

There will be a Veterans Day program at 2 p.m. Monday at Thedford High School.


McPherson County Veterans Day program is today

The annual McPherson County Veterans Day program is at 10 a.m. today at McPherson County Schools in Tryon.

On Saturday, there will be a card party at 7 p.m. at McPherson County High School commons area. Freewill donations will be accepted. The event is sponsored by American Legion and Auxiliary with proceeds going to Boys and Girls State, and to support veterans.
