Applications for the Inspiring Women Scholarship is now open to all democratic women throughout the state of Nebraska who are graduating from high school and will be attending college, or are continuing their higher education.
Applicants are asked to submit an essay of up to 500 words about a female democratic politician or community activist who inspired their own community service and political involvement.
The essay must be submitted by July 1. Applicants must also provide name, address, phone number, high school or college currently attending or will attend, email address, brief biography and resume (if you have one). Information should be sent to email@example.com.
Winners will be invited to attend the Helen Boosalis Luncheon on Aug. 9 in Lincoln.
Political trailblazer Helen Boosalis, the first female mayor of Lincoln, is the inspiration for a scholarship benefiting women students. The scholarship was established in 2009 following Boosalis’ death. Three women — one from each congressional district — will receive $500 each.
According to a press release, the Nebraska Democratic Women’s Caucus wants to honor Helen Boosalis’ legacy while encouraging tomorrow’s female political leaders by awarding the scholarship to Nebraska Democratic women who are active in their communities and progressive politics.
