The North Platte Public Schools Board of Education approved the purchase of a 10-passenger van to replace a 15-passenger bus that was sold to St. Patrick school late last year.
The new van is a 2018 Ford Transit XLT passenger from Janssen Chrysler Jeep Dodge, the sole bidder on the purchase. The price for the van is $26,492.
The board heard several reports including a report on the Champion Schools update, which is part of the Unified sports program. Peggy Romshek and Christie Copper, along with North Platte High School student Nathan Franz talked about the progress made in the program.
Unified Bowling was the first step into inclusive sports that brings together students with special needs and students without special needs.
On Feb. 23, the program has scheduled an unified basketball camp at Adams Middle School.
Vikki Carlson, director of Secondary Teaching and Learning, and Brandy Buscher, Student Services director, updated the board on the District Scorecard.
Executive Director of Finance Stuart Simpson gave the legislative update and marked several bills the district is following including Sen. Mike Groene’s LB 147 student discipline act. No comment was made on any of the bills other than Simpson said he is watching them to see what comes out of committee, especially bills related to property taxes and state aid.
