Tory J. Copeland and Larry G. Meyer were the top vote-getters in the Sutherland Village Board of Trustees special election on Tuesday.
Results were posted Tuesday night on the Lincoln County website after voting ended at 5 p.m.
Five candidates filed to fill two vacant seats on the board. The seats were open due to a recall election in November that ousted John Lutz and Ray Ravenscroft.
Tory J. Copeland, Larry G. Meyer, Samuel R. Haworth, Sally Bell and Patty M. Davis Ramsdell responded to the call to fill out the five-member board. Current board members are James Bliss, Ken Main and Kim Backer. Main and Backer were appointed to the board to fill the vacancies left by John Sauer and Dave Einspahr.
At a candidate forum Jan. 31, all five candidates indicated it was time to move forward from the controversy that has surrounded the village board for more than a year. Lutz and Ravenscroft came under fire for what detractors said were decisions and actions that led to an upheaval with the resignation of office employees and the village superintendent.
With Tuesday’s election, the board will once again be full.
Unofficial results: Copeland 275, Meyer 249, Ramsdell 167, Haworth 122, Bell 92. The vote will be certified at the canvassing board meeting on Wednesday.
