Authorities have released the name of a man who died Wednesday at Western Engineering.

Andrew Martinez, 28, died after becoming trapped in asphalt plant equipment. Martinez was originally from Weslaco, Texas, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office ruled the death an accident.

An office employee of Western Engineering said that because of snow, crews did not return to work Thursday morning. An official spokesperson could not immediately be reached for comment.

A staff member in Nebraska’s OSHA office in Omaha could not comment on whether the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration would open an investigation. As of early Thursday afternoon, the Western Engineering incident was not listed in a database of investigations.

Rescue crews were called to the company at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday. Emergency personnel performed what North Platte Fire Department Battalion Chief Jason Trimble described as a “body recovery,” meaning Martinez had already died.

Crews remained at the site for about an hour, Trimble said.

Chief Deputy Roland Kramer of the Sheriff’s Office declined to release specific details about the accident.
