A bicyclist was hospitalized with severe injuries after a collision with a semitrailer truck late Saturday.
The collision happened about 11:30 p.m. as a westbound semi driver was turning left from East Philip Avenue onto Prospect Drive. The driver, a 65-year-old Denver man, told police that the bicycle struck his semitractor.
According to police reports, the driver said he did not see the bicyclist, who was eastbound on the sidewalk on the south side of East Philip. The bicyclist was wearing dark clothing without reflective material and riding a black bike.
According to the police report, the first officer on the scene said the bicyclist appeared to have been listening to headphones attached to his cellphone. Music was still playing through the headphones.
The bicyclist, a 42-year-old North Platte man, was taken to Great Plains Health with severe injuries, the report says.
Blood tests at the hospital showed the bicyclist had a blood alcohol level of .260, according to the police report.
