Betty L. Slack

Betty Slack

Betty L. Slack passed away July 1, 2019, at her home north of Brady after a short battle with lymphoma cancer.

She was born April 2, 1936, in Los Angeles, California, to Kenneth and Bethel Jenkins.

After years of being a military wife, Betty adopted and loved the farming life in Wild Horse Valley when she married her husband Bill Slack on Dec. 4, 1982, at the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg. She enjoyed being with family and friends, reading, sewing and crocheting. She also enjoyed bowling for many years and working at the blue rock shoots. Fridays were her town days, and she always looked forward to her salon time with her granddaughter Kelly Lacy and coffee time with sister-in-law, Carol Slack.

Betty was a member of the Svea Dal Ladies Aid and the Ladies Extension Club.

She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Jenkins; mother and stepfather Bethel and Gerald Shadduck; sons Ray and Charles Eldridge; grandson Gerald Puryear Jr.; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Geraldine Slack.

Betty leaves to mourn her husband of 36 years, Bill Slack, of Brady; sons Gary (Jami) Roeder of North Platte, Joseph (Maria) Puryear Jr. of Hanahan, South Carolina, and Gerald (Rhonda) Puryear Sr. of Cozad; grandchildren, great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; brother, Charles (Marilyn) Jenkins of Elizabethtown, Kentucky; sisters-in-law Carol Slack of Gothenburg, Evonne (Garry) Hicken of Gothenburg and Bev (Mike) Troxel of Sutherland.
