Joan E. Lyons, 61, of North Platte, passed peacefully away May 28, 2019.

She was born Nov. 2, 1957, to Ivan and Shirley (Milbrodt) Beran at Omaha. She graduated from St. Patrick’s Catholic School with the class of ’76. On July 25, 1986, she was united in marriage to Dennis E. Lyons.

Joan was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Eagles and Moose Club. She was a longtime member of the VFW Auxiliary where she held the offices of president and district president along with various other positions. She was a 42-year member of the North Platte Women’s Bowling Association along with serving on their board for 15 years. She was an avid Cornhusker fan, and she especially loved the volleyball and football teams. Fishing was a favorite pastime. She also crocheted items for St. Patrick Parish and the Callahan Cancer Center. Joan was employed and managed Starting Gate Liquors for a number of years.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis of North Platte; son, Josh Beran; daughter, Wendy Lyons; sister, Susan (Tim) Keith; brothers, David (Gayle) Beran and Thomas (Elsa) Beran; many nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Shirley Beran; sister, Ruth Cox; brother-in-law, Tim Keith; and a niece, Michelle Ryan.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 3, at St. Patrick Catholic Church with the Rev. Matthew Nash as celebrant. Burial will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Family will be receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m., with the rosary to follow at 7 p.m., Sunday, June 2, at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Carpenter Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
