Karen A. Smith, 79, of North Platte, passed away May 30, 2019, at Linden Court.
She was born June 4, 1939, in Fremont to Otto and Ruth Hornyak.
Karen grew up in the North Platte and Hershey communities. She married Charles L. Smith Sr. and resided on the family farm southeast of North Platte.
She was an amazing woman and helped with the farming, canning, gardening, raising chickens, livestock and milking cows, all while raising five children. Karen loved to go hiking in the canyons, bird watching, horseback riding. She loved country western and classical music. Karen was extremely proud of her Hungarian heritage, and was very loving and giving to her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Sr.; two daughters, Cheryl and Joy; infant grandson, Alexander; brother, Charles; and sister, Janice.
Survivors include her children, Michelle Lannon, Charles (Patti) Smith Jr. and Valerie Smith, all of North Platte; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Gertsch and Vivian McClellen, both of North Platte; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Cremation was chosen. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, at the Maywood Christian Church. Inurnment will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, at the North Platte Cemetery. The register book may be signed Monday, June 17, at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
