Following are the scheduled west central Nebraska stops during July and August for the Union Pacific “Big Boy” No. 4014 steam engine on its “Great Race Across the Midwest,” according to the railroad’s website.

Except for its second North Platte stop in August, Big Boy will not be available for public display in the region during its round trip from Cheyenne, Wyoming. Schedules are subject to change.


» Sidney: 10th and Hickory streets, 12:15 p.m. July 8 to 8 a.m. July 9 (MT).

» Julesburg, Colorado: Old Depot, 201 W. First St., 9:15-9:30 a.m. July 9 (MT).

» Ogallala: South Spruce Street crossing, 10:30-11:15 a.m. July 9 (MT).

» North Platte: East Front Street sidetrack, between Chestnut and Poplar streets, 1:30 p.m. July 9 to 8 a.m. July 11.

» Lexington: Pedestrian overpass, 202 W. Pacific Ave. and North Lincoln Street, 9:45-10:30 a.m. July 11.


» Cozad: Old Depot, Meridian Street and U.S. Highway 30, 12:45-1:30 p.m. Aug. 5.

» North Platte: East Front Street sidetrack, 3 p.m. Aug. 5 to 9 a.m. Aug. 7 (public display, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 6).

» Ogallala: South Spruce Street crossing, 9:45-10:30 a.m. Aug. 7 (MT).

» Chappell: Vincent Avenue crossing, noon-12:45 p.m. Aug. 7 (MT).

» Sidney: Tenth and Hickory streets, 1:45 p.m. Aug. 7 to 8 a.m. Aug. 8 (MT).
